Chelsea Football Club can confirm that defender Aniek Nouwen has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture while on international duty with Netherlands Under-23s squad.

Nouwen has returned to Chelsea to begin her rehabilitation with the club’s medical team and continue her recovery.

The 24-year-old joined the Blues from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2021 and made her senior debut for the Blues against Leicester City. In January of this year, Nouwen embarked on a loan to AC Milan for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign.

Everyone at Chelsea would like to extend their best wishes to Aniek for her recovery.
