We bring you all the notable facts and figures ahead of a vital UEFA Champions League clash in northern Italy...

Our 3-0 win over Barcelona at Stamford Bridge in the previous game in this competition moved the Blues up to seventh in the 36-team league phase table, with ten points claimed and three games to play.

Last season, 16 points were enough to secure a top-eight spot and a place in the Round of 16, while 11 points were needed for a play-off position.

Atalanta join us as one of five sides on ten points from five matches and are tenth in the league phase table.

Chelsea vs Atalanta: Head-to-head

Together with Cypriot side Pafos, Atalanta are one of two new opponents for Chelsea in the league phase of this season’s Champions League.

This week’s match will be our first-ever game against Atalanta and our first match in Italy since we beat AC Milan 2-0 in October 2022, thanks to a Jorginho penalty and a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang goal.

The Bergamo side will be the 103rd different club we have played in European competition, and we will be playing at the 26,500 capacity Stadio di Bergamo for the first time.

Chelsea stats

Chelsea are competing in our 20th Champions League campaign. We have made the knockout stage in each of our past eight appearances.

On matchday five, our 3-0 win against Barcelona was our biggest margin of victory over the Catalans. It also made us just the third team to defeat Barcelona at least five times in the Champions League after Bayern Munich (10) and PSG (six).

We brought an end to Barcelona’s 53-match scoring streak, which dated back to 15 December last year. Hansi Flick failed to see his team score in a Champions League game for the first time in his managerial career (35 games; 19 Barcelona, 16 Bayern Munich).

Estevao Willian (18 years 215 days) is the third teenager – and second-youngest – to score in each of his first three Champions League starts after Kylian Mbappe (18y 113d) and Erling Haaland (19y 107d).

The Blues have lost three (Juventus away in 2021, Dinamo Zagreb away in 2022 and Bayern Munich away this season) of our past 27 matches in the Champions League group stage/league phase, winning 17.

Chelsea have scored in each of our last 20 European games since a 0-2 defeat to Real Madrid in April 2023.

Last season, they were eliminated by Club Bruges in the play-off round after finishing ninth in the league.

La Dea have lost only two of their last 19 group/league stage games in European competition (11 wins, six draws) and one of the last nine at home (four wins, four draws).

Atalanta have faced English teams 11 times, securing four victories, four losses, and three draws. At home, they have beaten Everton once, drawn with Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City, and suffered two defeats - both against Liverpool. This is their first fixture since a goalless draw at home to Arsenal on Matchday 1 last season.

Last season’s top scorer, Mateo Retegui, has departed to Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah.

Atalanta are unbeaten in four Champions League matches and are seeking a fourth consecutive clean sheet in this season’s league phase.
