Spain and Senegal have announced their squads for the upcoming World Cup, with Cesar Azpilicueta, Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly taking the number of Chelsea players confirmed to be competing at the tournament to 14 so far.

Spain manager Luis Enrique became the latest national team manager to confirm the list of 26 players he will be taking to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup, which is now just nine days away.

Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta has been included in the roster, which was revealed at Spain’s training centre Las Rozas, on the outskirts of the capital Madrid. That means he will travel to a third consecutive World Cup with his country, having also been in their squad for 2014 and 2018.

Azpilicueta currently has 41 international caps and one goal, scored on their last appearance at a major tournament, as they reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020 last year. His next chance to add to those tallies will come as Spain prepare for the World Cup with a friendly against Jordan on 17 November, before they face Costa Rica in their first match of the tournament six days later.

His Chelsea team-mate Kepa Arrizabalaga had also been named in Spain’s provisional squad ahead of the World Cup, but the goalkeeper misses out on the tournament after suffering a foot injury, which has ruled him out of the Blues’ last three matches.

Senegal also confirmed their World Cup squad today and there was no surprise to see two Chelsea players on their list of 26, with Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly both likely to be key players for the African champions in Qatar.

Koulibaly is expected to captain Senegal again at this tournament, as he did during their triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, and it would be a major surprise if Mendy weren’t between the posts behind him, having started their last nine competitive fixtures.

Senegal will be one of the first teams to get their World Cup under way, starting with a tough game against the Netherlands in Doha on Monday 21 November.

Today’s trio takes the total number of Chelsea players called up by their countries for this World Cup so far to 14, with England accounting for the highest number after naming Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling and Conor Gallagher in their squad yesterday.

You can find the full squads from nations featuring those Chelsea players below. The deadline for other countries to submit their World Cup squads to FIFA is Sunday 13 November.
