Our quest for European glory takes us to Barcelona for the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finals at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on Saturday lunchtime.

Having emerged as winners from Group D with an unbeaten record, the draw for the quarter-finals pitted us against Ajax. We overcame the Dutch side 4-1 on aggregate across two legs to set up a repeat of last year's semi-finals.

The Blues travel to Spain following a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday night which took us back to the top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table. First Chelsea goals from Maika Hamano and Kadeisha Buchanan added to an impressive opener from Aggie Beever-Jones.

Our first leg meeting with Barcelona comes just one week before the decisive second leg at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 27 April, with kick-off at 5.30pm (UK time).

The form

Emma Hayes’s side head into the semi-finals with an unbeaten record in Europe this season, having won four and drawn two of our six matches as we topped Group D.

Ajax were the next hurdle at the quarter-final stage. We recorded a 3-0 victory in the first leg at the Johan Cruyff Arena before a 1-1 draw at the Bridge, setting up an enticing semi-final with Barcelona.

Barcelona are also unbeaten in the competition this season having topped Group A with five wins and one draw. They took on Brann at the quarter-final stage, winning 2-1 and 3-1 respectively across two legs to continue the defence of their title.

Barcelona vs. Chelsea – recent head-to-head

We faced Barcelona at the semi-final stage last season and were narrowly beaten 2-1 on aggregate across the two legs.

Unlike this year's tie, we first hosted the Catalans at Stamford Bridge and they were able to establish a one-goal advantage after Caroline Graham Hansen struck early in the first leg.

It was then on to Barcelona and the famous Camp Nou. Both teams were well matched once more but the home side added their second of the tie when Hansen again found the net.

Guro Reiten responded for the Blues to level the second leg, but it wasn't enough to seal our passage to the final, which Barcelona would go on to win.
