Chelsea Women return to European action with the decisive second leg of our UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final encounter against Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Thursday evening.

The Blues trail by a single goal after the first leg at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, when Caroline Graham Hansen’s early strike was enough to give the Spaniards a narrow lead going into the all-important second leg in Spain.

After falling behind, we had chances to change the course of the game with Guro Reiten seeing a goal disallowed for offside, before the Norwegian had another effort blocked by Lucy Bronze (who has been ruled out of the second leg due to injury) as the ball appeared destined for the back of the net.

Four days after our meeting at the Bridge, we make the journey to southern Europe looking to overturn a one-goal deficit from the home leg. With everything still to play for on Thursday, both sides will be looking to book their place at the final in Eindhoven.

The form

Our journey to the semi-finals began at the group stages where we finished top of Group A which also consisted of Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Albanian champions Vllaznia. Five wins and one draw gave us 16 points from 18 available to secure our spot in the knockout phase.

The quarter-final draw pitted us against renowned winners of the competition, Lyon. We returned from France with a 1-0 victory from the first leg, before a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory in the return leg at Stamford Bridge at the end of March to progress to the semi-finals.

We welcomed Barcelona to Stamford Bridge for our semi-final first leg at the weekend, where Hansen’s goal was the difference between the teams on the day. The Spaniards took 15 points from 18 available at the group stage with five wins and one defeat on their way to the knockout phase.

At the quarter-finals, Barcelona were drawn against Roma and overcame the Italians with a 5-1 aggregate score across the two legs, booking their place in the semi-finals and setting up the two-legged tie against the Blues to close out April.

Chelsea Women vs Barcelona Women recent head-to-head record

Just four days ago, Barcelona claimed a 1-0 victory in the first leg of our UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final encounter at Stamford Bridge. Hansen drifted inside from the right before unleashing a fine strike into the bottom corner to give them a slender lead ahead of the second leg.

We also played Barcelona in the final of the 2021 UEFA Women’s Champions League, with the game in Gothenburg going in our opponents' favour.

The 4-0 results included goals from Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmati, Caroline Graham Hansen and a Melanie Leupolz own goal.
