The form

The Blues moved one step closer to securing back-to-back Barclay’s Women’s Super League titles following their nail-biting 2-2 draw against Manchester City, taking the all-important point back to Kingsmeadow.

Although a strong start from City, it was Chelsea who took the lead in the 25th minute when Erin Cuthbert’s corner found Sam Kerr in the box who headed in her 18th goal in the league. City quickly levelled the score with a close-range shot from Chloe Kelly, but it was Chelsea who went into half-time with the lead after Sam Kerr was awarded a penalty after being fouled by goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck, which Pernille harder quickly converted.

City continued to dominate large periods of the second half with Hemp netting an equaliser with less than 20 minutes remaining. Chelsea’s Ann-Katrin Berger produced a world-class save to keep them in the game and deny Hemp a late winner, securing the Blues the crucial point going into the remaining two WSL games of the season with a two-point lead.

Bayern Munich had a strong start to the season with 26 straight wins to take them top of the Bundesliga where they have remained since. However, in recent weeks they have experienced two significant losses against Wolfsburg in the German Cup and Hoffenheim in the league.

Bayern Munich V Chelsea Women recent head-to-head record

The Blues have faced Bayern Munich twice in the Champions League previously with the last meeting ending 2-1 to Bayern back in 2017, which was the second leg of the tie. The first leg went to Chelsea Women with a 1-0 win at home.

Bayern are yet to lift the Champions League trophy, previously getting to the semi-final against Barcelona two years ago which ended in a 1-0 defeat. Their 2020/21 run has delivered them wins against Ajax, BIIK-Kazygurt and most recently Rosengard.

Chelsea have faced Benfica, Atletico Madrid and Wolfsburg to secure their place in this year’s semi-final.

Next up for the Blues

Once the Blues have returned from Munich, they will prepare to once again face Bayern Munich one week later in the second leg on Sunday 2nd May with a 12..30pm (UK) kick-off at Kingsmeadow.
