Benoit Badiashile is pleased to take a 4-1 lead back to the Bridge, but knows that the job is far from over as we bid to reach the Conference League final.
It was a fierce atmosphere in the Swedish capital as Djurgarden looked to pressure the Blues in the early stages, but we were able to hold firm as Jadon Sancho scored a crucial early goal. His strike was followed by Noni Madueke, while Nicolas Jackson scored an impressive brace after the break.
Despite the hosts notching a late consolation goal, Benoit was pleased with his side’s work and is hopeful of replicating a similar performance back at the Bridge in a week’s time.
‘First of all we are happy with the win and we knew that it could be a tough game but we managed it well and we go back with the win,’ Badiashile opened, speaking after the match.
‘The first ten or 15 minutes were tough for us. We tried to control the game after so the early goal really helped us a lot.
‘We have a good relationship as a defence. I like to play with them. We try to work together and aim for a clean sheet.’
The centre-half acknowledged that it was always going to be a difficult atmosphere but was pleased with how the Blues stuck to our game plan.
He continued: ‘We knew that the second half would be tough as well, so Enzo told us to keep going and to score more goals. It was a nice atmosphere and we won so we are happy.’
Benoit also saved a special mention for Josh Acheampong who has impressed him in recent weeks particularly.
He added: ‘Josh is a really good player who can be a top, top player. He’s someone who loves to listen and to work so we will try to help him reach the highest level.’
