Benoit Badiashile discussed Liam Rosenior’s vision to get this Chelsea side playing with freedom and his own aims for the rest of the season now he is injury-free.
The Frenchman missed much of the early part of the season due to injury, but returned in November and has featured in both of our matches since Rosenior took charge as head coach.
Badiashile completed the full 90 minutes as we defeated Charlton Athletic 5-1 in the FA Cup third round, on Rosenior’s debut in the Blues dugout, before coming off the bench in Wednesday’s narrow loss to Arsenal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
The defender has been encouraged by his first week working with Rosenior, having already seen what our new head coach achieved during his time in France.
‘I think he’s a really good guy and I watched some of his games from Strasbourg so I know he’s a good manager as well,’ said Badiashile.
‘He’s told us just to be free, to enjoy playing football. I think the style is good for us, so we will try to do what he is asking of us.
‘He’s been explaining his vision to us, but it’s only been a short period of time, so we need more time together.’
After those back-to-back cup fixtures, Chelsea return to Premier League action for the first time under Rosenior’s leadership this weekend, when we host Brentford at Stamford Bridge in Saturday’s west London derby.
Now that he is back in action himself, Badiashile is fully focused on using his time on the pitch to contribute as much as possible to helping the Blues improve during the second half of the season.
‘I had a lot of injuries, but now I am free, so the most important thing is to stay fit and try to play as much as I can,’ he added.
‘The first half of the season could have been better, I think, but we still have a lot of games to play, so we focus on that.
‘Now the aim is to win every game. When you start a game you just want to win, so it’s just to win every game and every trophy that we can, to be the best that we can.’
