Bethany England made her international debut for the England women’s team in a friendly international away against Belgium on Thursday evening.

The 25-year-old striker, who was Chelsea Women’s topscorer last season, was brought on for the final quarter-of-an-hour of a game that finished 3-3 and she was involved in the closing action. No more goals were scored by either side but Beth England had a shot and a header saved, with a further difficult chance sent wide.Fran Kirby had withdrawn from Phil Neville’s squad in the build-up to the game due to injury but another Chelsea player, Hannah Blundell, was called up instead. She and Millie Bright stayed on the bench throughout the game but Carly Telford began in goal.The Lionesses went into a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Reign FC’s Jodie Taylor and Arsenal’s Beth Mead and also hit the post, but they were 3-2 behind by the 55th minute. The first Belgian goal was a scrambled effort that went down as a Telford own-goal. The Chelsea goalkeeper was substituted on 63 minutes.Nikita Parris, now of Lyon, put her World Cup penalty-taking problems behind her to level for England from the spot.As host nation for the Euro 2021 tournament, England have no qualifiers scheduled but play another friendly on Tuesday in Norway.Wales do have to play qualifiers and they made an outstanding start in their opening match in the bid to make Euro 2021. Sophie Ingle captained the side to a 6-0 win away against the Faroe Islands. Reading’s Natasha Harding scored a hat-trick.
