Chelsea's chance to complete the set and get our hands on the only piece of major silverware to have eluded us thus far comes in Abu Dhabi this weekend, and here we have all the facts and figures needed ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup final...

Chelsea at the Club World Cup

This is the fifth occasion a Premier League side has competed in the Club World Cup final (two wins, two defeats so far).

Since the Club World Cup was changed to the current format in 2005, 12 of the 17 finals have been contested between the European and South American representatives.

Cesar Azpilicueta is our only survivor from the last time we qualified for the Club World Cup. Although Romelu Lukaku was a Chelsea player, he was on a season-long loan at the time at West Brom.

Since 2005, the UEFA Champions League winners have made it to the final of the Club World Cup on all 17 occasions.

Mateo Kovacic is our only current player to have won the trophy before. He won it twice with Real Madrid in 2016 and 2017.

Nine other players who have played for Chelsea have won the competition with other clubs: Mineiro (Sao Paulo) 2005, Pato (Internacional) 2006, Pedro (Barcelona) 2009 and 2011, Samuel Eto’o (Inter Milan) 2010, Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona) 2011, Claudio Pizarro (Bayern Munich) 2013, Alvaro Morata (Real Madrid) 2016, Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) 2018 and Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) 2019.

Chelsea stats

Since we lost successive games in September against Man City and Juventus, the Blues have only been defeated twice in our last 29 matches, winning 19.

Chelsea have won all three penalty shoot-outs this season - against Villarreal in the Super Cup and Aston Villa and Southampton in the Carabao Cup. Kepa Arrizabalaga holds the club record for most shoot-out saves 8 followed by Petr Cech 6 and Kevin Hitchcock 4.

Milestones

Palmeiras stats

Palmeiras have won more trophies than any other Brazilian club and have won a record 10 Serie A league championships.

Formed nearly 115 years ago, Palmeiras are looking to become South America's fourth Club World Cup champions.

Palmeiras are unbeaten in 10 games in all competitions (seven wins) since their last defeat in November.

They beat Egyptian side Al Ahly 2-0 in the semi-final on Tuesday. The African champions had their captain sent off after 80 minutes.

The Brazilians lost all four of their penalty shoot-outs in 2021 including their third/fourth play-off to Al Ahly in last season’s Club World Cup.

Brazil has now produced more finalists than any other country in Club World Cup history (nine).
