Chelsea duo Mamadou Sarr and Nicolas Jackson both started as Senegal continued their preparations for this summer's World Cup by taking on the United States in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Sarr, who spent the second half of the 2025/26 campaign with the Blues after being recalled from his loan at Strasbourg in January, was earning his seventh cap for the Lions of Teranga. Jackson, meanwhile, was appearing for his country for the 32nd time.
It was the USMNT who broke the deadlock early into the contest; former Blue Christian Pulisic flashed the ball across goal in the seventh minute and Sergino Dest finished.
Senegal fashioned an opportunity to equalise, but Jackson, fresh from his season-long loan at Bayern Munich, was unable to take the chance from inside the penalty area.
The USA, coached by former Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, made the most of that let-off by doubling their lead. A neat move saw Ricardo Pepi slip the ball through for Pulisic, who rounded Senegal goalkeeper Mory Diaw to score.
An excellent block from Sarr on the half-hour mark to deny Antonee Robinson kept Senegal in the contest, and it was an important moment as Sadio Mane reduced the deficit just before the interval.
In the second period, Jackson played a key role in drawing Senegal level. The 24-year-old won back possession inside the U.S. half and nudged the ball beyond the advancing substitute goalekeeper Chris Brady for Mane to bundle home from close range.
The lead wasn't one Senegal could hold on to, though. Folarin Balogun scored what proved to be the winner for the World Cup hosts shortly after Jackson had been withdrawn. Sarr was then replaced in the 71st minute of the game, which ended in a 3-2 defeat for the West Africans.
Senegal will play one final warm-up game ahead of this summer's World Cup; they face Saudi Arabia in San Antonio, Texas, on June 10.
