Former Chelsea wingers Paul Canoville and Pat Nevin have recorded messages of support for those involved in tomorrow’s Big Stamford Bridge Sleep Out in aid of the charity Stoll.
Both players wished the fans taking part in the charity event, which is organised by the Chelsea Supporters Trust in conjunction with Chelsea Football Club, good luck and expressed admiration for their efforts, while urging others to get involved and help raise funds for a worthy cause.
Canoville, who previously joined supporters in the last Sleep Out in 2019, when they raised £25,000, also expressed his regret that he isn’t able to take part this time around due to his recent health problems.
The 2021 event will be taking place virtually due to UK Government restrictions owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, meaning those taking part can choose where to sleep, whether it's the garden, the living room floor or even the Shed (not that one!). All money raised will go to the Stoll charity, who provide supported housing for vulnerable and disabled veterans and dependents from all three armed forces.
Stoll, based in the Oswald Stoll mansions adjacent to Stamford Bridge, work with approximately 500 individuals each year. They address a wide range of barriers to independence, and ensure they are securely housed and their health needs, including emotional wellbeing and mental health, are being addressed effectively. Over half of the veterans Stoll works with suffer from one or more mental health conditions, of which over half have a diagnosis of PTSD.
