It is Mental Health Awareness Week and an ongoing Talk More Than Football campaign is this year backed by Chelsea players who have been doing just that.
Chelsea Football Club partner Three has, since 2023, encouraged football fans to open up about how they are feeling. New research released revealed that two-thirds of football fans in the UK struggle with their mental health and Three has partnered with Samaritans, the charity that is there 24/7 for anyone struggling to cope, on campaigns to raise awareness of emotional support.
Previously, Chelsea legends and fans came together to highlight the existence of Samaritans’ helpline number, and listening skill workshops with supporter organisations have taken place.
This week, our own social media channels have been featuring Blues stars sitting down over a coffee, having taken a taxi away from the training ground in Cobham. They chat through their lives away from the pitch and check in that each other is okay. The videos can be watched below.
Tosin Adarabioyo, Levi Colwill and Reece James talked about family and how that helps them stay grounded, how they catch up with friends, and team meals out…
Marcus Bettinelli, Trevoh Chalobah and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall discussed the challenges of relocating where you live, how to relax and turn off from football, and having faith and a support system.
A lot of what the six chatted about was prompted by words sent in by fans.
