Guro Reiten, Sam Kerr and Lauren James have been nominated for prestigious Professional Footballers’ Association awards for their contributions to our Double-winning 2022/23 campaign.
Our Chelsea trio enjoyed a hugely successful season as a collective, helping the Blues secure a fourth consecutive Women’s Super League title, alongside a third successive FA Cup triumph, while their individual performances have seen them shortlisted for these esteemed accolades.
All three players are in with a chance of claiming the prize in their respective categories, having been voted for by their fellow players. Guro Reiten and Sam Kerr are among the nominees for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, while Lauren James has been nominated for PFA Young Player of the Year.
Reiten enjoyed an excellent season for the Blues last time out, managing 13 goals in 39 appearances. Her creativity, consistency and quality did not go unnoticed at domestic level and there was recognition on the international stage when she was presented with the Golden Ball, an annual award given to the best male and female player by the Norwegian Football Association.
It was another remarkable season for Kerr who netted 29 goals in 38 appearances and registered her 100th Blues appearance. She scooped the Chelsea Women’s Player and Players’ Player of the Season awards, the FA WSL Player of the Year at the London Football Awards for the second time and became the first player to win the Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year prize twice in a row.
An exceptional young talent, James continued to shine on our way to the WSL and FA Cup Double. She won the WSL Goal of the Month award for February after her wonderful solo run and finish against Tottenham Hotspur, while also being named Women’s Young Player of the Year at the London Football Awards before signing a new long-term contract upon the conclusion of the season.
The other nominees alongside Reiten and Kerr for the PFA Players' Player of the Year award are Ona Batlle, formerly of Manchester United, Rachel Daly of Aston Villa, Frida Maanum of Arsenal and Khadija Shaw of Manchester City.
James goes up against Laura Blindkilde of Aston Villa, Missy Bo Kearns of Liverpool, Lauren Hemp of Manchester City, Maya Le Tissier of Manchester United and Katie Robinson of Brighton & Hove Albion for the PFA Young Player of the Year prize.
The winners will be announced at the PFA awards on Tuesday 29 August.
