Sonia Bompastor has confirmed she will be without the services of three players for the first leg of our Champions League qualifying tie against Real Sociedad.
The Blues head coach was joined by Lucy Bronze on Tuesday afternoon to answer the media’s questions ahead of our opening fixture of the 2026/27 campaign, which takes place at the Cherry Red Records Stadium in Wimbledon. It will be streamed for free live on the Chelsea Official App and website.
Bompastor will hope to see her side establish a lead ahead of the second leg in Spain next week, but she will not be able to call upon Erin Cuthbert, Mayra Ramirez and Manaka Matsukubo.
‘We have a squad with almost everyone pretty available from pre-season,’ said Bompastor.
‘The ones who are not available are Erin Cuthbert, who had an injury in the last international break and she's recovering from that. We also have Manaka, who won't be available for this game, and Mayra as well, who won't be available for the game.
‘I don't think we could expect to see them for the second leg. I think it'll be a little bit longer, but it's difficult to put a timeframe on it. They are working really well and progressing as we want them to progress, but yeah, no timeframe.
‘Except from these three, everyone else is available.’
Bompastor expanded on Ramirez’s recovery following the serious hamstring injury she suffered this time last year, with the head coach explaining her absence on Wednesday is expected.
‘Mayra is recovering from not having played last season, and I think it's tough sometimes when you haven't played for the full season to be ready to compete.
‘It's part of her rehab plan. She's not quite ready, but we are working closely with her to make sure she returns on the pitch as fit as possible.’
