Sonia Bompastor has confirmed that Lauren James sustained a hamstring injury against Charlton, but there was more positive news about the fitness of Lexi Potter.

The Blues sit top of the table following our 6-0 victory over Charlton last weekend, and are currently ahead of rivals Manchester City in second place on goal difference.

The only disappointment for Chelsea fans during that emphatic win was that Lauren James was forced off with an injury after 35 minutes, with Erin Cuthbert drafted in to replace her as a substitute. And after having a full week to assess James' fitness, the head coach was able to give an update on her injury.

'LJ will be missing the games until the end of the block,' explained Bompastor.

'She had a scan, and she has an injury in her hamstring. We won’t see her on the pitch until the end of this block.

'Of course, we know how good Lauren is for us, for the team. My job is to make sure I find solutions when players are not available. The good thing is that I looked at some of the statistics we saw from last week, and we are a team who can score with different players.

'A lot of players were involved in the scoring against Charlton, and every player on the pitch had a shot on goal. Even if it was not always a great one, at least all of the players on the pitch had a shot on goal. That's a good thing. My job is to make sure I now find the solutions without LJ on the pitch.'

Midfielder Lexi Potter missed out on the Charlton win with a small knee injury sustained against Roma in our 2-0 Women's Champions League victory, but has been training with the squad this week, as Bompastor explained.

She said: 'We have Lexi Potter who is back in the squad and in contention for the game.'
