Sonia Bompastor was delighted with her side after Chelsea Women's 6-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon and singled out the impact of the supporters on the team's performance.

A brace each from Ellie Carpenter and Lauren James, plus goals from substitutes Maika Hamano and Sjoeke Nusken, contributed to the 6-2 victory on Bompastor's 50th game in the Women's Super League.

The result means we continue our unbeaten start to the campaign, with five wins and one draw from our opening six league matches this season.

'I'm pleased with the performance and the result,' said the head coach afterwards. 'I was convinced coming into this game, we would need players who would come in and bring a big impact and fresh legs.

'On the back of the international break, we can talk about the tactical aspects, but it was probably the most important thing to have players who impacted the game the way they did today. So it's good when you have depth in the squad, a lot of players available, and the quality of the players who are coming in.'

The fans at Stamford Bridge were treated to a big win for Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, with eight goals scored in total. We are now playing all of our WSL matches at Stamford Bridge and the crowd noise has been excellent throughout. That sentiment was echoed by our head coach.

'The atmosphere today was great in the stadium,' continued Bompastor. 'The fans were unbelievable. It helps when they can see many goals. Both teams need to play well for them to see the quality of football on the pitch. So credit to Chelsea, but also to Tottenham for that.

'I feel like they really enjoyed it, especially with the win at the end and the three points.'

Naomi Girma was missing from the squad against Spurs, and Bompastor gave an update on her condition.

'Naomi picked up a small injury in her calf before the international break,' she explained. 'That's why she's out of the squad. But right now I have depth in the squad. I have a lot of high-quality competition.'

Praising the contribution of James after her two superb goals this afternoon, Bompastor said: 'When LJ is playing at this level, we are talking about a top-class player, a world-class player. She creates things for herself by herself with the quality she has on the ball.

'It's a big help when you have a player who can create from nothing. I want to also highlight the team performance. When individuals are performing, it's usually because the team is performing as well. The players around her are doing a job for her to express her quality on the ball.'

James came into Sunday's clash on the back of a brace for England during Tuesday evening's 5-0 win over Greece. Bompastor explained that her international performances helped fuel today's outstanding display.

'It was a bit more difficult for her before the international break,' said the head coach. 'Going with England was a big boost and I think she played really well, and we are now getting the benefit of that, so it's good.'
