Sonia Bompastor is hoping to seal the Treble with victory over Manchester United in the Women’s FA Cup final, which would complete an incredible undefeated domestic campaign.

Chelsea have already added two pieces of silverware to our trophy cabinet in 2024/25, by beating Manchester City 2-1 in the Women’s League Cup final back in March and then sealing the Women’s Super League title with a 1-0 win away at Manchester United at the end of April.

The Red Devils will be our opponents again on Sunday, this time at Wembley Stadium in the Women’s FA Cup final, when we have the chance to claim the club’s second domestic Treble, to go with the achievement of Emma Hayes’ Blues in 2020/21.

On Sunday, Bompastor will be the woman in the Chelsea dugout at Wembley in her first season with the club. Having not lost a single match in domestic competition so far, she is hoping to complete an incredible campaign with one more win.

‘We are in a really good place, just the fact that we won the league being unbeaten,’ said Bompastor, who became the first head coach to lead a team to a 22-game unbeaten season in the WSL.

‘We won a title, but it’s maybe more than a title, because the way we were able to do it was special.

‘I think this will stay in history for a long time. So that’s really positive and brings us confidence going into the last game of the season.

‘I’m really excited to have one more game with this ambition and the fact in this one last game we can win another trophy. Just to end the season with an FA Cup final at Wembley against Man United is maybe the perfect way to end the season.

‘But you only get the trophy if you win, so we need to make sure going into the game we have the best preparation and we perform on the day.’

Those preparations are almost complete, with Bompastor explaining she has made sure her players have remained fully focused on the task ahead – rather than previous achievements or events off the pitch – as she knows Man Utd will present a tough challenge.

She said: ‘Training has been good again. We have been really focusing on the last game, a really important game for us. That’s a final at Wembley, a historical stadium, and to have the opportunity in one game to win another trophy will be something exceptional for the team, for the club.

‘So we are really focused on that. We know we can have a historical season as well with the Treble, so all the focus is on that goal. But it’s a final, we play a final against Manchester United who are a team used to playing in finals. I think they are a really strong team, they don’t concede a lot of goals and we need to remember that as well.

‘I think the final will be 50-50 so first of all we want to go into the final with the best preparation, making sure we have the right mindset, focus on the goal and we’ll speak after about hopefully a Treble. But we need to play the game first.’

Although she is keeping her team focused on Sunday’s FA Cup final, Bompastor did reflect on the big news in the build-up to the game that entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian had become a minority investor in Chelsea Women.

‘It’s a really exciting moment for the club, for the women’s team, for the women’s English game,’ she added. ‘Just to have this opportunity to have Alexis invest in the women’s team is something great, so I’m really happy with this news, I’m really excited about this.

‘It’s about the values and I think you hear from his words he showed from the beginning the respect he has for this club and this team. For me it means a lot because this respect is something really important in terms of values. So I’m really excited and I can’t wait to meet him in person.’
