Sonia Bompastor has confirmed Naomi Girma has been ruled out of our Women's FA Cup semi-final clash against Manchester City on Sunday, but the good news is that goalkeeper Hannah Hampton is fit and available.
Girma missed the 3-1 win over Leicester City last weekend, while Hampton was named on the bench.
Bompastor explained Hampton's absence was a planned rotation to allow fellow stopper Livia Peng the chance to play, but that Girma is unfortunately ruled out through injury.
'Hannah is completely fine,' explained the head coach. 'I rotated the team a little bit last weekend for the game against Leicester. It allowed me to give some opportunities to other players, Liv being one of them. Liv has been incredible for us. So she deserved to play.
'Naomi won't be available for the weekend. She had a setback in her calf, so she's not available.'
Sam Kerr scored a headed goal against Leicester last weekend to overtake Fran Kirby as our all-time leading Women's Super League goalscorer with 64 goals in league action for Chelsea.
The Australian is just three goals away from overtaking Kirby as our highest goalscorer in all competitions, and Bompastor took the time to praise the striker before the FA Cup semi-final.
'Our job as managers is to make sure when you come into these big games, you bring everyone in at their best form possible, for them to perform at their best level,' she said.
'Having Sam available, fit to feature and being able to make a big impact for us is crucial because we know her experience, we know all the quality she can bring and the impact she can bring to the team. We are hoping for her to be able to do that on Sunday as well.'
