Chelsea captain Millie Bright has backed teammate Aggie Beever-Jones to repeat the success she has enjoyed at club level on the international stage as our forward looks to win her first senior England cap.
Bright and Beever-Jones are currently in camp with the Lionesses ahead of Friday night's European qualifying match against France at Newcastle United's St James' Park. They then face the same opponent in Saint-Etienne on Tuesday.
This is Bright's first involvement with England since October 2023 after being sidelined with injury, while Beever-Jones will be hoping to win her first senior cap for her country.
It is the first time our forward has been selected for a squad by Sarina Wiegman, although she was involved in a joint camp with the under-23s in February and was subsequently named on the bench for a friendly against Austria.
The 20-year-old's call-up is a just reward for a stunning breakthrough season for the Blues where she scored 11 goals in our title-winning Women's Super League season. She finished the league campaign as our second highest goal scorer behind Lauren James.
And our skipper believes Beever-Jones, who spent the previous two seasons on loan at Bristol City and Everton, deserves the opportunity she has been given with the Lionesses.
'She's been exceptional,' said Bright. 'Everyone has seen her attitude and her mentality and the player she is developing into.
'I think it's extremely hard going out on loan and coming back. Aggie has shown how good it can be for young players. She's really thrived in our environment and her hard work this season with her goals, assists and performances have got her a call-up.'
It is not only Beever-Jones' footballing ability that Bright believes makes her a good fit for international duty as the Chelsea defender hailed the character and personality of her teammate.
'Her runs in behind, her pace, she is a wonderful technician on the ball but most importantly she puts the ball in the back of the net so she is a great addition to the squad,' added Bright.
'She's quite cheeky actually – I know she might come across as an angel. She's a real good character, a real good girl, super humble, super caring and committed.
'Whatever task you give her she will fulfil to the best of her ability. She's really bubbly as well. Losing Rachel Daly, it's nice to have those characters and that bubbliness.
'She's like a sponge in these environments. She takes everything in, but she's having fun while she does it, which is the most important thing.'
