Winning trophies has been a consistent part of Chelsea captain Millie Bright’s career in blue. Now, in her 11th season with the club, the skipper is as hungry as ever to add more honours to an already lengthy list.
Sunday’s FA Cup final at Wembley will be our opportunity to clinch a domestic Treble, but even this is nothing new for Bright.
The defender already achieved that feat with Chelsea back in 2021, but this time around it’s a little bit different.
‘There would be a lot of pride if we did it,’ Bright explains. ‘Especially after all the changes we've had this season. Behind the scenes, we've had a lot of hard moments. I don't think everyone gets to see those, so it would be absolutely incredible to win it.
‘I always feel lucky and proud to win one trophy, let alone potentially doing the treble again. It really would be the icing on the cake for the season that we've had.’
The skipper is no stranger to playing at Wembley. Bright is an England regular and was an integral part of the Lionesses side that won the European Championship at the famous venue in 2022, not to mention lifting multiple FA Cups in blue.
There are members of this Chelsea side who have never played on that hallowed turf, and they will turn out in front of a packed out crowd this weekend, with more than 85,000 tickets currently sold. The captain doesn’t think they will be overawed.
‘Even though we've got quite young players, they’re level-headed and mature, she says. ‘They thrive in these big moments, and I think they're so excited to be playing at such an iconic stadium.
‘I try to remind them Wembley is unbelievable and to take in every single minute of being there. It's such an iconic place to play. Playing in this competition – with the history that comes with the FA Cup – and potentially lifting that trophy is amazing and one of the best you can win in England.
‘It's a massive occasion and such a special day, so we need to enjoy it.’
The team have been training hard following the title-winning celebrations at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
Even though Sunday will be a momentous occasion at Wembley, Bright’s preparations have been business as usual. She’s as concentrated as ever.
‘I prepare the same way for every game, for any opponent,’ she acknowledged. ‘I think it's important to be consistent in routines and behaviours.
‘If anything, we've highlighted the focus this week, because the league season is done. We needed everyone to stay focused, which we have. We've had some excellent training sessions.
‘Sometimes this can be the hardest game because it's right at the end. But we’re motivated and nothing changes, except it’s the end of the season. We’re making sure everyone has tunnel vision.’
