The form
Chelsea are in fine form in the WSL and will be looking to extend our unbeaten run to 29 games. So far the Blues have won five and drawn two in the league and sit in third place with one game in hand.
Our last fixture was on Wednesday in the Women’s Champions League against Benfica. The Blues travelled to the capital of Portugal to face the Lisbon-based side for the first leg of the round of 32. The encounter finished 5-0 and we were in front after just minutes thanks to a milestone goal from Fran Kirby.
Chelsea’s No.14 turned home a low cross from Pernille Harder to take her tally for the club to 69, which surpassed the previous record, which she shared with Eniola Aluko. Millie Bright was next on the scoresheet when we headed home a Guro Reiten free-kick and then Kirby got her second and our third with a smart finish from close range. Emma Hayes’ side were 4-0 up by half-time thanks to a Pernille Harder header and Bethany England added the fifth shortly after the break when she confidently fired in her first Champions League goal.
Next up at Kingsmeadow
Chelsea have two games at Kingsmeadow before the Christmas break. Firstly we welcome Benfica to our KT1 home on Wednesday evening for the return leg of our round of 32 tie and then four days later, we meet Tottenham. Our match against Benfica kicks off at 7pm and then next Sunday’s game versus Spurs kicks off at 2pm.
