The form

Since the opening day defeat at Liverpool, the Blues have registered three consecutive league victories seeing off Manchester City, West Ham United and Everton. We sit third in the table with nine points from 12 available after four league matches.

Pernille Harder has been directly involved in eight goals in her last six starts in the Barclays Women’s Super League (five goals, three assists), scoring twice in her first league start of the season against Everton last time out.

As for our opponents, Brighton & Hove Albion occupy 10th position in the league table with one win and two defeats from three league matches. Hope Powell’s side were beaten 4-0 at Arsenal and Manchester United, but secured all three points in their first home league game against Reading.

Brighton have won one of their seven Barclays Women’s Super League matches against Chelsea, drawing two and losing four, and are winless in four home matches against the Blues, with two draws and two defeats.

Chelsea Women vs Brighton & Hove Albion Women recent head-to-head record

The Blues most recent league visit to Brighton came back in January, where we were held to a frustrating goalless draw last season.

In the previous meeting between the teams at Kingsmeadow in October, Chelsea ran out 3-1 winners during a run of seven consecutive league victories that lasted until December.

First-half goals from Guro Reiten and Sam Kerr gave us a 2-0 lead going into the break, but the visitors made it difficult for us in the second half.

Danielle Carter reduced the deficit shortly after the restart, before substitute Bethany England netted the third and decisive goal to wrap up the points with 10 minutes remaining.

Next up for the Blues

After Brighton, our busy October schedule continues as the focus switches back to the UEFA Women’s Champions League next week.

We welcome Albanian side Vllaznia to Kingsmeadow this Wednesday 26 October, with kick-off at 8pm (UK time) in our second group stage match of the campaign.
