Armando Broja was delighted to play his part in our 4-0 FA Cup win over Preston and hopes his header can help him kickstart a purple patch in front of goal going forward.

The Albanian led the line well for Chelsea in our big win over North End, heading home the opener from a Malo Gusto cross in the 4-0 home victory.

Further second-half goals from Thiago Silva, Raheem Sterling and Enzo Fernandez secured our place in the fourth round and Armando believes we can use this performance as a springboard for a big week of games across a number of competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

‘We’re really pleased to go through and I think in the end it was a good performance from us,’ Broja reflected on the FA Cup win post-match.

‘We struggled a little in the first half to get going, we struggled to break Preston down and fair play to them, they were defending very well.

‘Second half, we made some adjustments and got the ball into wide areas and I think as soon as we got the first goal, it opened up the game and we managed to take advantage of that and we’re pleased with the result and the performance.

‘I was really pleased with my goal, I thought it was a good header. I just wanted to make sure I got myself into the box to be in the right area.

‘With Misha and Malo linking up down the left, I knew they’d provide me with the service. Malo did that, it was a great delivery and I’m just glad I was able to head the ball beyond the goalkeeper and get the goal.

‘I’m really pleased to score and hopefully that will give me confidence going forward to score more.

‘Whether I’m starting or coming off the bench, I want to help the team by scoring goals so hopefully I can go on a bit of a run now and I’m just really excited and happy to have scored and helped the team to a big win.’

The Blues are in further cup action this week, with a trip to Middlesbrough in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup next on the agenda.

With two legs against Boro sandwiched between a key Premier League fixture against neighbours Fulham, Broja has spoken of the importance of maintaining our recent fine form and competing on all fronts as we search for silverware.

‘We’re pleased to get the win and no matter what competition we play in, we want to be competing for trophies,’ added the Albanian international.

‘Winning against Preston in the FA Cup is the first challenge done and now we can go into the next game [Carabao Cup semi-final v Middlesbrough] with confidence and the same mindset – to try and win the game.

‘Then we have an important game in the league against Fulham, so it’s an exciting time for us right now and it’s important we keep this run of form going.’
