Moises Caicedo believes the first win of Liam Rosenior’s tenure showed this Chelsea team can go from strength to strength under our new head coach.
Rosenior’s first match in the Blues dugout ended in victory as we defeated Charlton Athletic by an emphatic scorline of 5-1 at The Valley in the FA Cup third round.
There are plenty more challenges to come for this Chelsea team and our head coach in the weeks ahead, but Caicedo is confident we can match them after that winning start and his first few days working with Rosenior at Cobham.
‘I think he just wants discipline and effort from us, in training, in games,’ said the midfielder.
‘We have started really well with him and for sure we are going to do a lot of good things with him.’
However, Caicedo dismissed any notion that we cruised to that first victory against a stubborn opponent backed by a passionate home crowd across London.
‘We are so pleased with the win because we knew they are so difficult to play against, so the team was good,’ he continued.
‘It’s a battle when you play against a team like them, but our team was prepared. I think we did very well and we won the game.’
Lastly, the Ecuadorian, who wore the captain’s armband from the start against Charlton, had words for Jorrel Hato, after the 19-year-old opened the scoring at The Valley with a brilliant strike to net his first goal for Chelsea.
‘Everybody was happy because of him. He deserved it, because he’s doing really well at the club, and now he scored that goal and everyone is happy for him.’
