Moises Caicedo says the Blues must build upon our 1-0 victory over Pafos, with all eyes now on securing an automatic spot in the Champions League Round of 16 next week.

In a game of few clear-cut chances, and one in which the Blues had plenty of the ball, we had to grind out the result at the Bridge. The home supporters had to wait until the final 15 minutes to watch Liam Rosenior's side break the deadlock as Caicedo headed home from close range, but it was worth the wait.

Although the Ecuadorian midfielder doesn’t score many, they always seem to be important, and last night's was crucial as the Blues took another step closer to qualifying directly for the Round of 16. And our goalscorer spoke of his delight after the match as the Blues edged closer to our target.

‘It was a very important goal for the team,’ Moises answered. ‘I’m just so happy we could win this game. It was so tough, but the team was good. I don’t score headers often, but tonight was the night. I’m so happy to score.

‘It was difficult to break them down, but we needed to control the game, and we did that really well, so that was important for us.’

Moises feels like he’s growing into a leadership role in the dressing room as one of the more experienced players, and he is relishing taking it on, leading by example.

‘A lot of people tell me I’m a leader,’ he continued. ‘I don’t talk too much in the dressing room, but I like to show on the pitch or in training every day. That’s important. We are working every day really hard because we need to be better every game.’

With our final league phase game to come next week, Moises knows just how important tonight’s victory will be in building momentum before facing Napoli.

‘I’m so happy because we got the three points,’ he added.

‘Now we are going to keep going because we have one more game to secure our place in the top eight. The team is preparing well and we will keep working hard.’
