Interim head coach Calum McFarlane has backed Blues duo Reece James and Levi Colwill to perform under the arch, as Chelsea prepare to take on Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
It’s a huge moment as the Blues of London and the Light Blues of Manchester go head to head in the 145th edition of the FA Cup final, and Calum has made two changes to the side that faced Liverpool on Saturday, including the inclusion of skipper Reece James from the start.
The captain is joined by Levi Colwill in the starting XI, who produced an impressive display at Anfield. The Blues’ interim boss highlighted the boost that both will give Chelsea ahead of kick-off.
‘It’s great to have Reece back,’ he said. ‘He's such a good player, so we know what he brings to the team. He's shown that in the 30 minutes against Liverpool, and we’re hoping he can repeat that.
‘For Levi, Liverpool was actually his second full game; he had 100 minutes for the Under-21s during the quarter-final of the Premier League 2. He's in a good place. We're confident in him, and he’s trained really well, so it’s another big boost for the team.’
Calum knows the potential prize for Chelsea – our ninth FA Cup triumph, and a place in the Europa League – and believes it’s a massive privilege to lead the Blues at Wembley.
‘It's a great occasion, a massive privilege to lead such a massive club out in a massive game,’ he continued. ‘We're really looking forward to it. It would be positive to win this game, to get into Europe guaranteed, and to win silverware, which this club is known for.
‘This team's shown this year, even though it's been a difficult year, that there have been some real highs, some really positive performances against Europe’s elite, Premier League's elite.’
