Jelena Cankovic’s first experience of an FA Cup campaign continues today with the big fifth-round London derby at Kingsmeadow.

The competition’s draw served up a mouth-watering tie against Arsenal, whom we also meet a week later in the Conti Cup final. Cankovic and her team-mates are aiming for a season of multiple trophy wins, as has been Chelsea Women’s way in recent times. The 27-year-old appreciates the history of what she is taking part in.

‘English football is always super-famous all over the world so of course I know that it's a big competition,’ Cankovic says about the FA Cup.

‘But for us every competition is big and we want to win every game. We don't make any differences between games and we just want to win every game so it doesn't matter if it's FA Cup or Conti Cup or League or Champions League, we just play to win and hopefully we can do it, we can progress to the next stage of the FA Cup.’

The last game Emma Hayes’s side did not win was five matches ago when we played Arsenal away in the WSL. However, that contest ended with Chelsea succeeding in scoring a late equaliser with a Sam Kerr header. It was Cankovic who, having minutes earlier come off the bench, crossed brilliantly for our centre-forward to finish.

‘It was a tough game and a tough opponent so it will be definitely a hard game [today] and that's what we expect. As we want to win, they also want to win. But we are ready, we know what we can do.’

The Serbian international midfielder moved to Chelsea from Swedish club Rosengard in the summer and as her contribution to that game at the Emirates and two crucial goals in a WSL win over Reading in December indicate, she is enjoying her football here.

‘Now I really feel settled in,’ Cankovic confirms. ‘At the beginning, it was a bit of a tough period for me with some injury. It was harder to settle in when you're not on the pitch with the team but since I started getting back to the pitch, everything became much easier, getting to know the players, everything around, so now I'm really in a good place and happy with everything.’
