When will Chelsea's third-round tie be played?

Ties in the third round will be split across two midweeks due to European participation. The first set of matches will be played across the week commencing 15 September. The second will be held in the week commencing 22 September.

How does the third-round draw work?

The draw will consist of 32 clubs – the 23 winners of the second round ties and the nine Premier League sides competing in this season's three UEFA competitions.

Two separate bowls will be utilised for the main draw – one that consists of the eight clubs competing in the Champions League and Europa League, and one consisting of the remaining 24 clubs.

The first eight ties will be drawn by alternating between one club from bowl one and one club from bowl two, with the home and away positioning of the Champions League or Europa League club determined in the pre-draw.

Once the first eight ties featuring clubs competing in the Champions League or Europa League have been drawn, the remaining eight ties will be drawn from bowl 2 only.
