Chelsea stats

Chelsea are facing a League One team in the Carabao Cup for the second time this season, following our 2-1 away win over Lincoln City in September.

We ended our four-game winless run on Saturday by defeating Everton 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, extending our unbeaten home league run against the Toffees to 31 matches.

Chelsea are competing in our 25th League Cup quarter-final. We have advanced to the semi-finals in 16 of the previous 24, including on the last five occasions. Sunderland, in 2013/14, were the last side to eliminate the Blues at this stage of the competition.

The Blues have progressed in each of our last 18 League Cup ties against sides from a lower division, the joint-second-longest run by a top-flight side in League Cup history.

The last time Chelsea were eliminated from the competition by a lower-division side was in the fourth round in November 2008, when we lost 5-4 on penalties to Burnley after a 1-1 draw.

Victory would take us into our 63rd major semi-final and 17th in the League Cup.

Cardiff City are looking to reach the League Cup semi-finals for the third time in their history and first for 13 years.

The Bluebirds are currently top of League One with 41 points from 19 games, four points ahead of Bradford City in second place. They have won six of their last seven games in all competitions (one defeat).

Head coach Brian Barry-Murphy succeeded Enzo Maresca as Manchester City's elite development squad manager in 2021, after Maresca left for Parma. Maresca returned a year later as Pep Guardiola’s assistant, and both were with the club for the 2022/23 season. Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia and Liam Delap were all coached by Barry-Murphy when they were at City.

Only Brighton & Hove Albion (12) have scored more goals in the Carabao Cup this season than Cardiff (nine). They have also had 52 shots, 11 more than any other side in the competition.
