This International Women’s Day, Chelsea Foundation continues to empower and inspire girls and young women by hosting fun football activities and workshops across three events.
Taking place simultaneously across Stamford Bridge, Kingsmeadow and Cobham, the events will involve over 300 girls from local schools in playing football, while learning and reflecting.
The events include educational workshops focused on encouraging girls to step out of their comfort zone, as well as health and wellbeing, and physical activity sessions, delivered by Chelsea Foundation staff.
Our staff will also be supported by secondary school students who took part in an event with The Powerhouse Project ahead of International Women’s Day.
Last International Women’s Day, Chelsea Foundation announced an initiative offering 5000 young girls their first experience of football.
Some of the girls in attendance at the events will be those who have engaged in Project 5000, including Darcey, Iris and Emmanuella from a school local to Stamford Bridge.
Emmanuella, a Year 4 student, was excited to tell Chelsea that ‘girls should play football because we can help to inspire each other’. Iris, in Year 5, shared Emmanuella’s enthusiasm for girls playing football, saying ‘anyone can play football, whoever they are’.
On accessing football through Project 5000, Darcey, also in Year 5, explained ‘when I play with Chelsea, it makes me want to play more football and more sports’.
