It’s the start of the Year of the Rabbit and Chelsea is getting into the spirit of the occasion with Lunar New Year activities and promotions at Stamford Bridge ahead of the Premier League derby against Fulham on Friday.

The Lunar New Year is the most important cultural event on the Chinese calendar with the celebrations traditionally lasting for 15 days. This is the fourth in the 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle and is represented by the rabbit, a symbol of purity, auspiciousness, hope and longevity in Chinese culture.

To mark the occasion, fans arriving early at the Bridge for the match against the Cottagers will be able to join the festivities and savour aspects of Chinese culture in our corner of west London.

Dressing up for the occasion

Our players will wear an exclusive Year of the Rabbit pre-match top when they warm up on the pitch before the derby.

Utilising design elements from Chelsea FC and Chinese culture, these shirts feature a unique rabbit illustration which channels the spirit of elegance, peacefulness, longevity and hope for the new year. As an added touch, the names of the players are printed in Mandarin Chinese text on the back.

A limited number of these pre-match tops are now available for sale at the Stamford Bridge Megastore and on our official online store

Festive decorations and activities

There will be a noticeable Lunar New Year vibe at the ground with traditional Chinese lanterns lining the walkway next to the Shed Wall and display boards near the stadium entrance explaining the various symbols of Lunar New Year, their significance in Chinese culture and how they relate to Chelsea Football Club.

The festivities will feature an exciting lion dance performance and fans will also have the chance to get their photo taken with our own lion mascots, Stamford and Bridget, who will wear Lunar New Year costumes when they engage with supporters at the game.

The club will also use the stadium’s big screens, LED perimeter boards and outer digital displays to send out seasonal greetings to our fans and give spectators a better understanding of the festival.

Flavours to savour

In keeping with the Oriental theme for the day, fans attending the game will also have a chance to savour Chinese and Asian fusion dishes on the matchday menu.

Among the options which will be available for fans to pre-order on our official food and beverage app, CFC Express, are Szechuan Pies, 5 Spice Vegan Burgers and Chinese Chicken Burgers.

Chinese cuisine will also be on offer to guests at our various hospitality locations around the stadium.

We wish all fans a Happy Lunar New Year and hope you enjoy the Year of the Rabbit activities!
