Wesley Fofana is the fourth guest on CFC Unlocked, our exclusive video series that explores the person behind the player. In this episode, Wes reflects on life in Marseille, discusses his football influences, details how injured players can make their mark, and outlines the legacy he wants to leave at Chelsea.
Now in his fourth season with the Blues, Fofana has experienced plenty during his time at Stamford Bridge. He has made his debut for France, has represented and scored for the Blues in the Champions League, and supported his team-mates to success in the Conference League and Club World Cup.
There have been injury setbacks in that time, too. Yet Fofana has remained a positive presence throughout, something he believes has been important to the success achieved over the past 12 months.
That was one of several topics discussed during a wide-ranging, half-hour conversation at Cobham. The French defender also looked back on playing street football in his hometown of Marseille and the Chelsea legends he watched live at the Stade Velodrome as a boy.
Wes also outlined the legacy he wants to leave at Chelsea – and how he knows the best way to be remembered at a club is by delivering silverware.
He said: 'I feel proud [to represent Chelsea], but it's a long way until I'm finished. I'm only 24 years old and I have to work a lot, but the most important thing is to leave your mark in the history of the club – and try to do everything for the club to win trophies.
'When you are finished with football, this is what stays. If you play and you win nothing, that is it after your career is finished, so the trophies and what you give on the pitch for the fans and the club are the most important thing.
'So I'm proud, but it's not finished. It's still just the beginning.'
