Trevoh Chalobah has explained how he was helping his fellow Cobham graduate Bashir Humphreys in last night’s draw with Newcastle United, while stating Reece James is a ‘leader’ in the Blues dressing room.

The defender completed his first full match of pre-season and Pochettino’s Chelsea gained a point in the Premier League Summer Series in Atlanta. It was our second of three games in the tournament and Trevoh reflected on the match with us afterwards.

‘It was good to get my first 90 minutes. We’re three games in now, feeling good,’ Trevoh said.

‘It didn’t impact us [the roof being shut]. I didn’t think about it, although it was much cooler and a much better temperature to play in. The fans were great, and it was a massive crowd with us tonight.’

Chalobah played alongside another product of Cobham, Bashir Humphreys. The centre-back was on loan at German side SC Paderborn last term and has improved vastly. His physique and defensive qualities have been felt by many on the training pitches back at Cobham and now in our stateside camp, and Trevoh added some promising words on his compatriot.

‘It is another step and experience for Bash which he coped with very well,’ he said. ‘I try to help him a lot with my experience of playing in his position the past two years. I have been trying to make him feel comfortable and ready to play.

‘Communication is key. Trying to be positive no matter the situation. Like if he does a mistake, I think it is good for the young players to hear someone being positive next to them, and that's what I did.

‘At the end of the day, we’re on the same team and doing the same job.’

Reece James was skipper for the evening before being substituted and Trevoh explained why he would be happy to see his friend, and team-mate, take the armband.

‘Being captain is a massive thing for Chelsea. Reece has his desires and hopefully he does get it. He constantly shows his qualities on the pitch, and he is a leader.

The spectacular Mercedes-Benz Stadium had a roof on, with temperatures inside much cooler than outside.

'It didn’t impact us. I didn’t think about it, although it was much cooler and much better to play. The fans were great and it was a massive crowd with us tonight,’ Trevoh added.

‘Back to Philly now, and then onto Washington DC!’
