Trevoh Chalobah says Chelsea will try to take the game to Liverpool today, but however the contest pans out the defender is focused on securing a precious Premier League victory.
There is very little to separate the pack of teams hunting a top five finish that would bring with it Champions League football next term. The Blues go into today’s meeting with the recent title winners off the back of consecutive league successes, and the 25-year-old knows what matters most at this crucial juncture of the campaign.
‘With four games to go it’s just about winning however we can,’ said Chalobah.
‘Obviously we want to impose ourselves in games, but right now, the position we’re in, and how tight it is with the teams around us, three points is all that matters.
‘We need to take it game by game. We are in good form right now, we’ve won two games in a row, and we will go into the next game with the same mentality.
‘We started the season very strong, and it’s important we finish strong also. We’re still in a good position. We need to have that belief and confidence.’
Chelsea were excellent at Anfield back in October, and were unfortunate to leave Merseyside with nothing.
Chalobah knows just how much this fixture means, and he believes home advantage today could make a big difference in the outcome.
‘We’ve got good home form, and the atmosphere we had against Tottenham is the same one we are going to need for the Liverpool game. That would be massive.
‘Every time we play Liverpool, last season as well, it’s always been a battle,’ he added.
‘We want to impose ourselves and we will have the mentality of wanting to win the game. They will be up for it and want to beat us because it’s Chelsea. We will give our all. It’s going to be a real battle.’
