Trevoh Chalobah talks about his off-field routine and how it is benefitting his game in the programme for today’s match against Aston Villa.
The 26-year-old has been in great shape this season, and puts it down to his focus on the marginal gains that he believes could also help to prolong his career further down the line. In the short term, however, it’s left him feeling stronger than ever, as he is showing with his muscle-flex celebrations.
‘I feel I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been,’ he says, ‘because now I’m playing more games consistently, back to back. I can see that the work I’m doing off the pitch is really helping. I’m building on a strong foundation and that’s why [I do] the celebration.
‘Obviously, the extra training I’m doing should keep me in the rhythm and keep my body ready for the games because you know how thick and fast the games can come.
‘The thing is, it’s specific work, it’s not just beating myself to the ground, because I know recovery is just as important. So I’m doing the right doses just to maintain and keep things up and for me it’s important. It’s not just on the pitch, it’s everything – how you sleep, how you eat, what are the extras that you’re doing to get that marginal gain.’
The full interview gives a fascinating insight into Chalobah’s mentality as he also discusses the festive fixture schedule and looks ahead to the second half of the season.
