Trevoh Chalobah has stressed the importance of Chelsea’s players all sticking together as we look to bounce back against Everton.

Our defeat to Atalanta last night means we have not tasted victory in our last four matches – although the first game in that run was a draw against Premier League leaders Arsenal where we were the better team with ten men.

Defeats to Leeds United and Atalanta, with a goalless draw to Bournemouth sandwiched in-between, have seen us drop points as we chase success in both the Premier League and Champions League.

But Chalobah has emphasised: ‘We have to stick together. It is easy to be together when you are winning but these are the times when you need to come together as a team.

‘We have been in this situation before, every team has, so we need to focus on the next game, and it is another opportunity to get a result.’

Chelsea had led 1-0 on Tuesday night in Italy through Joao Pedro’s goal midway through the first half but ten minutes after the interval, Gianluca Scamacca equalised.

The hosts then grabbed a late winner on 83 minutes to secure all three points and put a dent in our hopes of securing a top eight finish – and automatic qualification to the round of 16 – from the league phase of the Champions League.

‘We’re obviously down and disappointed. It is three points lost,’ Chalobah said.

‘They didn’t really create us too many problems, and it is important when it is 1-0, in the first ten to 15 minutes of the second half to stay in the game and give yourself the best opportunity to win.

‘They scored and it put us on the back foot, and in the second half we didn’t really get going and didn’t get control.’

He added: ‘It was tough out there. In the first half I thought we did well to have that control and it is always important when you come to any stadium with an intense crowd to quieten them and I thought we did that in the first half.’

One of the positives to come out of the night was the performance of Josh Acheampong, who impressed in what was his first Chelsea start since the end of October.

‘Josh did really well. He hadn’t played for a while and he stepped in really well,’ Chalobah said.
