Chelsea’s development squad take to the Stamford Bridge stage next week, with tickets still available to purchase at just £5 for adults and free of charge for concessions. Liverpool are the visitors as Andy Myers’s men open their home Premier League 2 campaign following back-to-back away victories against Derby County and Swindon Town’s senior side.

To begin the build-up, here we look back at the memorable moments in SW6 of those now flying the Academy flag in Frank Lampard’s senior setup…

Callum Hudson-Odoi

A goal from the forward in the away leg against Birmingham City had already handed Jody Morris’s side a healthy lead in the FA Youth Cup semi-final of 2017/18, though it was Hudson-Odoi’s performance in the Stamford Bridge return that really caught the eye.

He stole the show with a dazzling display, notching a first-half brace to put the tie beyond the Midlanders and generally causing carnage throughout. His first goal came via a free-kick which he had won and then dispatched into the top corner.

His second was even better. Picking the ball up just over halfway, he glided forward beyond three defenders before burying a finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

In the second half, the winger teed up Tariq Uwakwe to score the fourth of the night and send us back to the final with a 7-0 aggregate scoreline. The Blues went on to notch seven again over two legs in the final against Arsenal to win the trophy for a joint-record fifth year in a row.

Mason Mount

One of Mount’s most recent appearances for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge came in April 2017 when he lined up for our development squad against Sunderland. While the midfield man didn’t get a goal himself, he ran the show in a 3-0 win against the Black Cats.

It was his free-kick that was converted by Richard Nartey for our opener at the Shed End before he again played his part in our third, combining neatly down the right and suppling for Isaac Christie-Davies to finish.

Reece James

Our home PL2 opener in 2017/18 came against Derby County as a side featuring Hudson-Odoi and Ethan Ampadu started against the Rams. While James’s primary focus was on keeping the opponents’ tricky attacking players quiet, it was in the opposition penalty area where he did most damage.

With the score still deadlocked at 0-0 with over an hour played, the defender found himself advancing into the 18-yard box and fired a deflected shot beyond Kelle Roos to make it 1-0. A late second from Luke McCormick handed Joe Edwards’s side their first three points of the season, with James also contributing to a Chelsea clean sheet in an impressive overall display.

Fikayo Tomori

Tomori’s substitute appearance in the Super Cup this week was his first for the Blues since his debut at the end of the 2015/16 campaign. Loan spells at Brighton, Hull and Derby have followed since then but it was his contribution at the Bridge a fortnight before his Chelsea bow that sticks in the memory.

As well as helping to shackle Manchester City danger man Jadon Sancho, it was Tomori’s emphatic header from Mount’s cross that rounded off our scoring in west London in the 2015/16 Youth Cup final, helping us to a 4-2 aggregate win.
