The countdown to Christmas is on and every day across the Chelsea Official App and Website, we will be bringing you exclusive Blues content! Here is Benoit Badiashile on his festive traditions.

Although approaching his third Christmas in England after leaving his homeland to join Chelsea in 2023, it is the French traditions of celebrating the festive season that spring to mind for Badiashile at this time of year.

The defender recalls his memories of celebrating in Limoges, Paris and Monaco to give us some insight into a French Christmas in the Badiashile household...

What’s your best Christmas memory?

It was on Christmas Eve, when we celebrate in France, with my dad and all my family there in Paris. It was a great moment, the best I had, because everyone was there, all my family. I have a big family and everyone was there, so it was really good. I think I was 19 years old, something like this.

What is the first Christmas gift you can remember getting?

I don’t know if it was the first one, but I can really remember one when I received an electric car.

What is the first thing that you do after waking up on Christmas morning?

For me, it's more about Christmas Eve, the evening, and then on Christmas morning we don’t really do anything too special. On Christmas Eve, we have a big dinner with a lot of food and we just talk and laugh all together.

Which French Christmas tradition would you like to bring to England?

It’s the food, but it’s not that different from what people have in England. The best bit is le dinde, which is the roast turkey. It’s similar to here, but I like it done the French way.

How have you found it playing football over Christmas?

Do be honest, nothing changed for me last year, because we didn’t play on Christmas Eve! So it wasn’t too different for me.

And finally, what are you hoping for this Christmas?

To enjoy it like every year with my family, and hopefully they will all be here with me this year.
