With just ten days to go until Christmas now, we continue our Advent series on the Chelsea Official App and website by bringing you an exclusive festive-themed Q&A with Facundo Buonanotte.
The attacking midfielder is preparing for his third Christmas in England, far away from his native Argentina. As Buonanotte tells us, the traditions and climate back home are rather different to what we are accustomed to here…
What is your first memory of Christmas?
When I was very young, about three years old, I remember receiving a football for Christmas. That was my first football.
What is the first thing you do after waking up on Christmas morning?
In Argentina we celebrate Christmas on the 24th so I always wake up very late on the 25th, at 2 or 3pm!
What does Christmas Day look like for you and your family?
We have a big barbeque with a lot of food and drinks – and it’s always very hot.
What's the one Argentinean tradition that we should introduce to Christmas day in England?
A barbeque!
Have you tried a traditional British Christmas dinner?
I have never tried it! So I think I will try it this year!
Do you own a Christmas jumper?
I have one! At Brighton we had to get one but, to be honest, I don’t like it!
What was your first experience of playing football over Christmas – and did you enjoy it?
It was very difficult because in Argentina we have a break in December, but I also enjoyed playing so many games close to Christmas, and I know people back home in Argentina could watch on the TV.
What do you hope for this Christmas?
To be able to celebrate with my family. They are coming over for Christmas so I will see them. It will be my dad, my mum, my girlfriend and me because I don’t have any siblings. I can’t wait!
