The countdown to Christmas is on and every day across the Chelsea Official App and Website, we will be bringing you exclusive Blues content! Here is our No.16 Naomi Girma on her festive traditions.

Although born in San Jose, California, Chelsea defender Naomi Girma is proud of her Ethiopian roots.

And when she returns home to the U.S. for Christmas, Girma will be back among the community she credits with playing a huge role in her success.

When we sat down with her, the Blues defender discussed how her festive season fuses a traditional American Christmas blended with Ethiopian customs...

What are your first memories of Christmas?

Probably getting together with my family and friends and celebrating on Christmas Eve. We then celebrate more than on Christmas Day. It's pretty big!

What is the first Christmas gift you remember receiving?

I think I got a Pogo stick. That's probably the most memorable first one I got. I was in the garage and outside all the time, trying to beat my brother.

What is the first thing you do when you wake up on Christmas morning?

Nowadays, it's probably breakfast. We have cinnamon rolls and this traditional Ethiopian breakfast – I can't really explain what it's like!

What does Christmas Day look like with your family?

We wake up, open presents, and watch basketball. There's a lot of basketball on TV on Christmas Day in the U.S. Then we have family over and eat Ethiopian food. We just hang out; it's normally at my house, and it's all very chill.

Is there a particular Christmas Day you remember growing up?

I feel like they're all pretty similar. They're always really fun, always with a lot of family and family friends. Always good memories.

Do you own a Christmas jumper?

No! But I'll have to get one!
