There is a new piece of silverware to add to the Chelsea trophy cabinet after the Blues defeated Manchester United 6-5 to be crowned champions of the World Sevens Football tournament in London.
Our first appearance in the seven-a-side competition, this year held in London and only containing Women's Super League clubs, has proved a memorable one.
From amusing, choreographed pre-match walkouts to high-scoring victories, the Blues have impressed across the three-day tournament, held at Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium. And we ensured we left with a trophy in hand by overcoming Manchester United in this afternoon's final.
The Blues, who earlier in the day defeated Aston Villa 8-2 in the semi-finals, started the showpiece match tentatively. Hannah Hampton was forced into a couple of early saves, yet we fell behind when Jess Park fired a shot home for United.
An excellent Sjoeke Nusken strike brought us level, but United then established a healthy lead with three quickfire goals. A response from the Blues was needed – and it was produced before the half-time interval.
Keira Walsh struck, Aggie Beever-Jones netted her sixth goal of the competition, and Ellie Carpenter produced a close-range finish to send the teams into the break level at 4-4.
In the second half, United re-established their lead and defended well for much of the second 15 minutes.
However, Beever-Jones struck late to draw us level and, as the seconds ticked down, the England international drilled a shot home to ensure the Blues were crowned champions.
Fittingly, Beever-Jones finished with the golden boot with seven goals scored across the competition.
