Mamadou Sarr and Nicolas Jackson featured for Senegal as they beat Egypt 1-0 on Wednesday evening to reach the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Jackson led the line for Senegal while Sarr was introduced with just 23 minutes played because of an injury to former Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
It was a game of very few chances. Jackson, on loan at Bayern Munich this season, fired a rising drive over the bar early on. It was about as close as either side came to breaking the deadlock before the break.
Sarr, who is at Strasbourg this season, formed part of a Senegal defence that restricted Egypt to just three attempts all game, and only one on target, despite their strike force consisting of Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Man City's Omar Marmoush.
The deciding goal arrived with 12 minutes remaining when Sadio Mane’s 20-yard snapshot fizzed into the bottom corner. It was the moment of magic required in a tight semi-final in Tangier.
Jackson was withdrawn with five minutes to go as Senegal closed out the victory. They will play hosts Morocco in Sunday’s final in Rabat, which kicks off at 7pm GMT.
Both countries are trying to win the prestigious tournament for the second time, with Senegal coming into the game having not lost an AFCON match in normal time since the 2019 final.
