Chelsea FC Women is proud to announce that Alexis Ohanian, tech entrepreneur and founder of Seven Seven Six, joins the club as a minority investor.

With two titles sealed already this season, including a record-extending sixth consecutive Women’s Super League, Ohanian’s investment is a game-changing endorsement of Chelsea Women, and for women’s football in Europe and across the world. It signals a new era for the women’s game and is confirmation of CFCW’s potential for growth, both on and off the pitch.

Last year, Chelsea Women repositioned ourself within the club to provide the opportunity for investment specifically to support women’s football. Alexis’ investment provides further validation of this strategy as well as additional resources and capital to drive Chelsea’s continued leadership globally.

Ohanian brings with him a wealth of experience, energy and passion for women’s sports that will help take Chelsea Women to the next level and shine a light on the potential of the sport here in the UK.

Chelsea Women’s continued success on the pitch has gone hand in hand with significant growth off the pitch. The club has achieved a sustained increase in commercial revenue, with new and innovative matchday experiences and services being introduced for our growing fanbase, as well as building our commercial partnerships specific to the women’s organisation.

This investment will enable the club to continue investing in the facilities for our players and supporters, commercial resources to continue to grow women’s football globally, and our incredible, world-class squad and academy. We will continue to look to improve the fan experience for our diverse and growing fan base, as well as help to reach new audiences who want to join the Chelsea Women journey.

The club ownership group continues to be the controlling shareholder of Chelsea Women, with Alexis Ohanian joining as a minority shareholder.

BDT & MSD Partners acted as financial advisor to the club.

Aki Mandhar, CEO of Chelsea Women, said: ‘This is a landmark day in the history of Chelsea Women and for women’s football in Europe and beyond. This investment is validation of the club’s past success but more importantly it is yet another proof point in the market of the persistent growth and potential of women’s football.

‘We continue to lead the way, on and off the pitch, for players and for our fans and brands, empowering and inspiring future athletes and the next generation of sports fans. As a club, we are unapologetically ambitious and this investment is proof that the opportunities for growth in the business of women’s football are endless.

‘There is no greater champion of investing in the future of girls and women’s sports than Alexis, and we are incredibly proud to welcome him to the club.’

Alexis Ohanian, founder of Seven Seven Six, said: ‘As Founding Control Owner of Angel City FC, I’ve seen the opportunity to create and grow a worldwide brand within women’s football, and I’m confident Chelsea FC Women is the next global women’s sports brand. I’m so thrilled to build with Aki and the team as we grow the club’s footprint and impact.’
