Chelsea FC Women has announced a new long-term collaboration with Signify Group, a global leader in proactively tackling online abuse.
Online threats and abuse are an ever-increasing challenge in sport, and, thanks to Signify’s Threat Matrix service, the club will be able to monitor and respond to online threats aimed at players, coaches and key staff in a more targeted way. The service includes detection, prevention and support tools, plus educational workshops for the team.
The agreement covers major platforms like X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, as well as Chelsea’s own channels and will significantly support the existing work being done to strengthen the club’s efforts to fight online abuse.
Threat Matrix supports 42 languages with the service protecting family members as well as playing and support staff throughout the year. Through real-time insights, Signify will identify abusers and help the club take action or escalate cases to authorities when needed.
A Chelsea FC Women spokesperson said: ‘The welfare of our players, coaches and staff is of the utmost importance to Chelsea FC Women. By working with Signify Group, we are taking proactive steps to further address online abuse and threats, ensuring our players, staff and the wider Chelsea Women’s family can focus on what matters most – competing at the highest level on the pitch.’
Jonathan Hirshler, CEO of Signify Group, said: ‘Online abuse is one of the most pressing challenges in modern sport, and as the profile of women’s sport grows exponentially, sadly, online abuse follows. We applaud Chelsea Women’s leadership in this space and are delighted to support their commitment to creating a safer environment for everyone associated with women’s football across the club.’
