Dujon Sterling also made his first appearance of the season in the midweek Carabao Cup ties, as Wigan Athletic were beaten 1-0 by Stoke City.

Matt Miazga featured throughout for Reading as the Royals recorded their first league win of the season in defeating Cardiff 3-0. The American contributed to a clean sheet at the Madejski Stadium, while former Chelsea Academy midfielder John Swift was among the goals.

Josh Grant played his first game for Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday, featuring for the whole 90 minutes as the Pirates recorded their third consecutive victory, beating Leyton Orient 2-0 in the Carabao Cup.

Luke McCormick started both Shrewsbury’s 4-0 loss to Rotherham United in the Carabao Cup and the 0-0 draw with Rochdale in League One. The former was his first 90 minutes of senior football.

Lewis Baker put in an impressive performance as Fortuna Dusseldorf kicked off their Bundesliga campaign in style with a 3-1 win over Werder Bremen, their first victory at the Weserstadion since 1977.

Charly Musonda came off the bench as Vitesse continued their unbeaten start to the Eredivisie season with a 3-0 home win over PEC Zwolle. In the Dutch second tier, Ike Ugbo was a substitute as Roda JC lost 4-0 to Volendam.
