In our latest round-up of news involving Chelsea players out on loan, there was a debut for Danny Drinkwater and two wins in a week for Izzy Brown at Luton…
Izzy Brown earned bragging rights over Trevoh Chalobah [pictured above] when Luton Town and Huddersfield Town went head to head at Kenilworth Road in the Championship. Chalobah played the full match for the Terriers and it was his side that took the lead early in the second half. However, the Hatters launched a comeback shortly after Brown came off the bench, scoring twice in nine minutes to turn the game around and win 2-1.
That was Luton’s third win in eight days, with Brown playing the full 90 minutes of the 3-0 victory over Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup, when only a great save prevented the Chelsea loanee getting his name on the scoresheet through a powerful drive. It is the first time Luton have reached the third round of the League Cup in 12 years.
Also in the Championship, Conor Gallagher helped Charlton Athletic continue their unbeaten start to the season by winning 2-0 at Reading, taking the newly promoted Addicks up to second after the opening six games. The midfielder claimed an assist for Jonathan Leko's opener early in the second half, adding to his three goals in August.
Danny Drinkwater made his Burnley debut in the midweek Carabao Cup action, though the midfielder was unable to prevent the Clarets from a shock exit at the hands of League One Sunderland. The 29-year-old played 90 minutes in the 3-1 defeat at Turf Moor before remaining an unused substitute in Saturday’s 3-0 Premier League loss to Liverpool.
Richard Nartey came off the bench in back-to-back victories for Burton Albion, beating Morecambe 4-0 in the Carabao Cup and Bristol Rovers 2-0 in League One, both at home. Luke McCormick was a late substitute for 10-man Shrewsbury Town during their 3-0 defeat at Ipswich Town.
Josh Grant started Plymouth Argyle’s 4-2 defeat to Reading in the Carabao Cup last week, before coming on as a half-time substitute in the League Two loss at Northampton Town.
In Serie A, Mario Pasalic played for Atalanta and notched an early assist for Duvan Zapata’s first equaliser at home to Torino. The Croatian international played just over an hour and left the field with the score tied, though Torino eventually ran out 3-2 winners.
Ike Ugbo played 90 minutes up front for Roda JC in their narrow 1-0 loss at Maastricht.
Two further loan moves were confirmed this weekend, with Danilo Pantic heading to Hungary and Tiemoue Bakayoko returning to Monaco.
