In our round-up of the latest action for Chelsea loanees, there are two debuts and a couple of standout goalkeeping performances…

Callum Hudson-Odoi made his first appearance for Bayer Leverkusen and registered an assist just a few minutes after coming off the bench with his new team trailing 2-1 at home to Freiburg. Hudson-Odoi’s teasing cross was headed in by Patrik Schick, but the visitors would score again to leave with all the points.

Keeper heroics

In America, Gabriel Slonina was named man of the match in Chicago Fire’s goalless draw at Columbus Crew. The young keeper made nine saves, two particularly excellent ones, and backed up another clean sheet he earned in a 0-0 draw with New England Revolution on Thursday.

Another goalkeeper, Jamie Cumming, made a string of good saves but couldn’t stop MK Dons going down 1-0 at Exeter City. Henry Lawrence played 75 minutes at right wing-back. Lucas Bergstrom was also on the losing side in League One as Peterborough were beaten 2-1 by Portsmouth.

Elsewhere in England’s third tier, Bryan Fiabema made his Forest Green Rovers debut, coming on for the final half-hour of their 2-0 defeat to Shrewsbury. They are 23rd.

Bragging rights

Malang Sarr started his first two games for Monaco this week. He was taken off at half-time in the 4-2 home defeat to Troyes, but then played the full 90 minutes in the Derby de la Cote d’Azur yesterday as Monaco ground out a 1-0 win at local rivals Nice.

Back in England, Ian Maatsen returned from suspension to play an hour of Burnley’s 1-1 draw at West Brom on Friday evening. The Baggies levelled in the seventh minute of injury time, denying Burnley a third straight win.

Baba Rahman came off the bench for the final 20 minutes and helped Reading get over the line against Stoke, winning 2-1 yesterday. They are now third in the Championship. It was the Ghanaian’s first game since returning to the Royals on loan.

Tino Anjorin, voted Huddersfield’s Player of the Month for August, started their defeats to Bristol City and Blackpool this week. The Terriers have slipped to 23rd.

Barrow fell to their second defeat of the season, beaten 3-1 at Northampton with Sam McClelland in their defence.
