Liam Rosenior says Moises Caicedo is a match for any defensive midfielder in the world game, as the Ecuador international closes in on a century of Premier League appearances for the Blues.

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge during the summer of 2023 from Brighton and Hove Albion, Caicedo has cemented himself as a vital member of the Chelsea side, something that has not changed following Rosenior's appointment as head coach in January.

Caicedo has been almost ever-present in our midfield throughout his time with the Blues, which has enabled him to rack up an impressive number of appearances. And his next game in the Premier League will be his 100th in the competition for Chelsea.

That milestone appearance could arrive on Sunday as we host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, and Rosenior has explained why Caicedo is such an important presence in his line-up.

‘For me, Moises is one of the best defensive midfield players, if not the best defensive midfield player, in world football,’ our head coach stated.

‘That’s because of his intelligence, his physicality, his technical quality, and how he understands the game. He's going to be huge for us on Sunday.’

This weekend's fixture could prove vital for both clubs’ ambitions this season, with Chelsea competing in a tight race for UEFA Champions League qualification and the visitors attempting to keep in range of leaders Arsenal.

However, with the Blues set to face sides with a wide range of targets in the seven top-flight games that remain this season, Rosenior insists he is just focused on the task at hand, regardless of our opponent’s situation.

‘It would be three points which takes us closer to our objective, which right now is to qualify for the Champions League,’ he added. ‘That's all we can focus on.

‘We have to play teams who are fighting relegation, teams who are mid-table, teams who are pushing at the top end of the league.

‘It doesn't matter because every game is so difficult in this league and we know it's going to be a big challenge on Sunday, but it’s one that we're looking forward to.’
