Our round-up of the best of the action for those Chelsea players out on loan includes news of five debuts in February and a defender doing his bit in an astonishing record…
Bashir Humphreys - Burnley
Humphreys has continued to feature regularly in a Burnley defence that is proving to be one of the meanest in the history of English football. They have now kept 12 consecutive clean sheets in the Championship – Humphreys starting eight of them - and have conceded just nine goals in 34 league games in total. That is an EFL record.
Humphreys made a difference going forward in the recent home victory over Hull, too, scoring a brilliant 20-yarder to set the Clarets on their way to a comfortable 2-0 success. They are currently five points off second-placed Sheffield United with a game in hand, having exited the FA Cup this weekend in a loss to Preston North End in which Humphreys didn't play.
Alex Matos - Oxford United
Matos has started three games for Oxford United in recent weeks, being used in both a defensive and attacking midfield position. The Yellows are currently 18th in the Championship having gone seven games without a win.
Zak Sturge - Millwall
The young defender made his Millwall debut in the final half-hour of a 1-0 win at Derby County in which the visitors scored the only goal five minutes into stoppage time.
Alfie Gilchrist - Sheffield United
Gilchrist did not play for Sheffield United in February and the Blades manager Chris Wilder confirmed last week he is currently back at Cobham receiving treatment for an ankle injury.
Caleb Wiley - Watford
The American was involved in the matchday squad for the first time at the weekend but remained on the bench as Watford were held to a goalless draw at Stoke.
Dylan Williams - Burton Albion
Full-back Williams has appeared for Burton once in recent weeks as the Brewers have climbed the table. They now sit just two points away from safety in League One.
Leo Castledine - Shrewsbury Town
Injury prevented Castledine playing for Shrewsbury in February, and the midfielder is back at Cobham receiving treatment.
Jimmy-Jay Morgan - Gillingham
The striker has contributed to Gillingham’s uptick in form, making seven appearances since his loan move was confirmed in January, including in Saturday’s vital victory over fellow League Two strugglers Morecambe.
Teddy Sharman-Lowe - Doncaster Rovers
Sharman-Lowe remains an ever-present for Doncaster, and the goalkeeper has kept two clean sheets in Rovers’ current three-game winning streak that has lifted them to third in League Two.
Max Merrick – Hampton & Richmond
Merrick helped Hampton & Richmond arrest a five-game losing streak with a 2-1 success at Aveley on Saturday that leaves the Beavers safely in mid-table in the National League South.
Djordje Petrovic, Andrey Santos – Strasbourg
Petrovic has kept four consecutive clean sheets for Strasbourg as they have risen to seventh in Ligue 1.
Further upfield, Santos remains a regular in their midfield and captained them in their Coupe de France defeat to Angers, a game in which he also recorded an assist.
Carney Chukwuemeka – Borussia Dortmund
Chukwuemeka made his debut for Dortmund off the bench in the Champions League win at Sporting Lisbon, and he has since featured twice more as a substitute in two wins as the German giants try to climb the Bundesliga table. They are up tenth.
Joao Felix – AC Milan
Felix has had a busy start to life at AC Milan, playing eight times in all competitions. He scored on debut in the 3-1 win over Roma in the Coppa Italia, but couldn’t prevent Milan going out of the Champions League to Feyenoord over two closely-contested legs. They have slipped to ninth in Serie A after losing three games in a row domestically.
Renato Veiga – Juventus
Veiga’s first four games for Juventus ended in victory, but a leg injury sustained early in his fifth appearance, away to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, has since ruled him out of action.
Kepa Arrizabalaga – Bournemouth
Kepa played in Bournemouth’s penalty shoot-out win over Wolves in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday, with the visitors’ last two spot-kicks failing to hit the target. That result followed three league defeats in four that put a halt to the Cherries’ excellent form. They are currently seventh in the Premier League table, and will host Manchester City in the Cup quarter-finals at the end of this month.
Axel Disasi – Aston Villa
Disasi has played every possible minute of Premier League football for Aston Villa since his temporary switch to Villa Park. The defender could make his Champions League bow for Villa in their Round of 16 meeting with Club Bruges this month.
Lesley Ugochukwu – Southampton
Ugochukwu remains a regular in Southampton’s midfield, with their February highlight unquestionably the 2-1 win at Ipswich Town in which he played the first 81 minutes. He was ineligible for the Saints’ game at Stamford Bridge last week.
Raheem Sterling – Arsenal
Sterling has played for Arsenal in three different competitions recently. He started the 2-0 success at Leicester and also the Gunners’ 2-1 win at Girona in the Champions League, a victory that secured their place in the Round of 16, where they will play PSV Eindhoven.
